Capisco: Heritage craft for a design icon
I’m proud to collaborate with HÅG, part of Flokk, on reimagining one of Norway’s most iconic design pieces – the HÅG Capisco – using vintage Norwegian åkle combined with wool from Gudbrandsalen Uldvarefabrikk.
At the heart of this collaboration are shared values: choosing longevity over trends, showing respect for materials, and creating design meant to last. By working with existing Capisco chairs and carefully selected heritage textiles, we explored how traditional craftsmanship and modern industrial design can meet – without compromising function, ergonomics, or durability.
Capisco has always challenged how we sit and move. Working with its distinctive form was both inspiring and demanding. Every curve has a purpose, every line is intentional. Introducing a traditional textile like åkle meant listening to the material, understanding its history, and allowing craftsmanship to lead the process rather than forcing a result.
What emerged is not a prototype or an experiment, but a fully functional, one-of-a-kind chair. Each piece carries visible traces of its past, while being designed for many more years of use. A meeting point between old and new, craft and industry, heritage and contemporary design.
