Theme this year.
”Research Matters”

Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women, and its incidence is increasing. The chances of surviving and leading a good life after breast cancer are continually improving, mainly due to research, but we still need more knowledge.

Rosa Sløyfe

The Pink Ribbon Campaign is an international grassroots movement. In Norway, the Breast Cancer Association and the Cancer Society stand together for the campaign, which has contributed over 415 million Norwegian kroner to the breast cancer cause.

Learn more about breast cancer.

  • Mammography is an X-ray examination of the breasts that can detect breast cancer before the disease presents symptoms like palpable lumps. In Norway, all women between the ages of 50-69, regardless of their country of birth, receive an invitation for mammography every other year to check for breast cancer. The visit takes 10-20 minutes, but the actual imaging process takes about 5 minutes. Before the images are taken, a radiographer will ask some questions and look for any skin changes on the breasts that may be visible in the mammography images. Then, you enter another room where the mammography machine applies pressure to the breasts for a few seconds before the images are captured. It can be somewhat painful when the breast is compressed, but studies have shown that women don't find it as painful as many may think. Usually, two radiographers are present when the mammography images are taken. Images are captured from two angles for each breast. The images are then examined by two radiologists, and most receive a response letter within 2-4 weeks. You are required to pay a deductible fee of 267 Norwegian kroner for the mammography examination.

  • Breast cancer is by far the most common form of cancer in women, and its incidence is increasing. Today, one in ten Norwegian women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Out of the approximately 4,000 who are affected each year, about 150 of them are diagnosed with metastasis at the time of diagnosis, and over 600 die from the disease annually.

There is no clear cause for why an increasing number of women are getting breast cancer, but much suggests that it is a combination of genetics, hormones, and lifestyle. Some cases can likely be prevented through reduced alcohol consumption, dietary changes, and increased physical activity.

  • The most important thing is that women between the ages of 50 and 69 attend their mammography appointments when they receive an invitation. Additionally, we encourage all women to start monitoring their breasts themselves from the age of 30-35. Few women get breast cancer at that age, but by familiarizing yourself with your breasts, you can quickly detect if something is amiss. To notice a change, you need to know what they look like normally. That's why observing, touching, and feeling your breasts is essential. This applies to both women and men.

Exactly how and how often this should be done, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. People are different. Some are very in tune with their bodies and will quickly notice if something is not as it should be, while others may need a reminder from themselves or someone else to occasionally take a look in the mirror.

  • Unisex S/M/L. The silhouette of this trench coat is slightly oversized, thoughtfully tailored to embrace a range of wearers from sizes S to L.

Just like each vintage piece carries its own story, your body has its own unique shape. Begin by measuring a garment you're already familiar with; it will serve as a reliable point of reference. Take these six measurements from your garment and make a comparison:

    47cm - Shoulder Across
    61cm - Sleeve Length
    90cm - Front Length
    54cm - Chest Width
    55cm - Waist Width
    66cm - Bottom Width

The person in the pictures/video is 1.77 meters tall, and is a size S/M.

Shoulder Across (Measured from shoulder seam to shoulder seam)
Sleeve Length (Measured from shoulder seam to sleeve ending)
Front Length (Measured from the highest point on the shoulder and down)
Chest Width (Measured at armhole and across the chest)
Hip Width (Measured widest part hip)

  • To keep your treasured upcycled garment looking its best, please note that it requires extra care. Please take this into consideration before making a purchase.

We have conducted extensive washing tests on our Åkle carpets, and they can be hand washed. But, for this leather coat, dry cleaning is required.

Store with Love: When not in use, store your garment with love in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Fresh Air: Additionally, letting your garment hang outdoors in fresh air once in a while can breathe new life into it.

  • We use a variety of traditional Norwegian patterned woven carpets handmade in the 1900s in our design. The patterns are originated from different areas, all with different weaving techniques.

Recouture is proud to incorporate the patterns and motifs of Norwegian handcraft into our work, creating one-of-a-kind contemporary garments of this traditional textile.

By breathing new life into these second-hand treasures that may have lost value for their previous owners, we put them in a modern context, allowing them to be reborn.

We hope this will help to keep the tradition alive and ensure that handcraft remains an important part of Norway's cultural heritage.
