ÅKLE in Chicago

When Recouture visited Chicago during NeoCon 2026, Norwegian textile heritage met the international design scene.

Together with HÅG and Flokk USA, we presented three one-of-a-kind HÅG Capisco chairs upholstered with traditional Norwegian åkle textiles. Each chair carried its own story, shaped by craftsmanship, colour and materials that had already lived a long life.

For Recouture, the visit to Chicago was an important milestone. It showed how Norwegian heritage, circular thinking and contemporary design can resonate far beyond Norway. Seeing historic textiles given new life on a Norwegian design icon—and receiving such an enthusiastic response in the US—was both moving and inspiring.

The showroom and the Norwegian åkle textiles were highlighted by the international press as a fresh and elegant contrast to the more understated interiors seen across the fair. It was inspiring to see their colours, craftsmanship and history stand out—and to experience how something deeply rooted in Norwegian tradition could feel both new and relevant on an international design stage.
